Helium 2011
Saturday, 11th June in Skellys, Ballymahon, Co Longford
Over 30 bands took part in this year's music festival which was an extremely well-run affair and took place on a lovely sunny day in the back yard of Skellys Bar, Main Street, Ballymahon. There were three stages which were occupied by a great variety of musicians from 2.00 p.m., finishing shortly after 1.00 a.m. with the lead act, The Coronas, on the main stage. Action then moved to the Fesitval campsite in a large field at the entrance to the town which had its own 'Hollywod-style' lit up H E L I U M sign on a hill, where a disco took place in a couple of marquees.
A huge 'round of applause' is due to the extremely efficient organisers, Bernard Mulvihill and Michael Delaney, together with their hardworking committee and a large group of helpers, for organising such a successful and enjoyable fundraising occasion for the third time. This year's event was a sell-out and the biggest ever with 1,200 tickets sold, and an ongoing waiting list!
